Originally from Kansas, Councilwoman Cara Schroeder earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Emory University before making Tucker her home in 1997. Since then, she has been actively involved in enhancing the city and improving the quality of life for its residents.
Elected to Tucker City Council in November 2021, Cara has been recognized for her leadership and vision. She was officially installed as the representative for District 2 in January 2022, serving a four-year term. In January 2024, her peers elected her as Mayor Pro-Tempore. Throughout her time in public service, Cara has been credited with numerous impactful projects, including co-leading the Public Works Referendum and overseeing significant infrastructure development. She also played a key role in implementing the Nondiscrimination Ordinance, rezoning Lawrenceville Highway, and advancing the city’s Economic Development Strategic Plan. Additionally, she has helped update the city’s Comprehensive Master Plan and is involved in the development of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan for 2024.</p>
Before joining the City Council, Cara served on several key boards and committees, including the City of Tucker Planning Commission and the Friends of Tucker Parks, where she held the role of Vice President. She is a founding member of the Henderson Park Community Garden and co-chair of trail building with the Friends of Henderson Park. Cara's contributions also extend to the City of Tucker Community Council, where she served from 2016 to 2019, and to the Parks Master Plan Committee in 2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked on the city’s Advisory Council in 2020.</p>
In addition to her public service, Cara is a seasoned fundraising professional with years of experience. As the principal of consulting firm Schroeder Resources, she provides comprehensive strategic guidance to nonprofit organizations, helping them achieve their fundraising goals through capital campaigns and other initiatives. Cara's deep connections within the giving community enable her to match requests for support with potential donors, as well as translate her clients' needs into fundraising appeals that interest and engage individuals and foundations. Her work is informed by her Midwestern roots, which instilled in her the values of trust, honesty, and hard work learned from her family base of advisors and business owners.</p>
Cara is widely known in the Tucker community as a “Greener Good Friend” for her commitment to preserving parks and greenspaces and for her role in championing trail projects throughout Tucker. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband, Michael, are deeply committed to making Tucker an even better place to live, work, play, and pray.
